Welcome to my homepage

Research interests

My main research area is ''Logic and Uncertainty''. In particular, I try to integrate qualitative and quantitative approaches to knowledge representation and inductive reasoning, as well as to model the dynamics of complex epistemic states in the context of multi-agent-systems.

More specifically, I have started to investigate reasoning about/with trust for cognitive agents in e-science, which calls for a bundling and extension of previous formal tools. This is currently done in the context of the TRIAS project in collaboration with Christoph Schommer who is considering the use of textmining to extract trust information from scientific articles.

For further details about my past research activities, you may enjoy a synoptic account of my research history, have a look at my publication list (not yet up to date :-&), or read a seminal paper on default reasoning, introducing System JLZ (good luck).

Teaching interests

Selected Topics in AI : A regular advanced third-semester master course based on recent research literature with active student involvement. It is meant to prepare the students for research work within our group, be it at the master or PhD thesis level.  For instance, in 2007, we took a look at causal reasoning.

Organization

Together with my colleague Leon van der Torre, my goal is to develop Logic and AI at the University of Luxembourg, with a very  interdisciplinary and international perspective. While the first six years already have been rather successful - initiating ILIAS, catching Leon, co-building ICR - much more can be - and so will be - done.
